International art exhibition of women artists within Galathées!

In October 2020, Ksenia Poncet, president of the Artistic Association Galathées together with Verónica Pereira Carrillo, Argentinian feminist-activist, university professor and former UN staff member launched a series of talks in three consecutive languages (French, English and Spanish) featuring women artists, writers and filmmakers entitled: “Women’s Art for Human Rights”.

Later, this project continued to develop and the idea of organizing an art exhibition was born. From The Art of Illustration with Ro Ferrer (Argentina) to painting with Ksenia Poncet (France-Netherlands), Marie Donin (France), Layla Reguiai (Tunisia –Germany), Therese Cigna (France) and Galina Zernova (Russia) Women of Art promote the respect of Fundamental Human Rights taking part in a virtual group art show within the Galathées Association.

They question and interpret the viewer’s gaze. Their artistic, plastic or graphic work is neither similar nor different. Divergent in their practice but convergent in their commitment, these Women Artists depict « The soul of a human being, the meaning of his life » following the words of the great painter Ilya Repin.

These original and unique artworks give us a different perception of Women on Human Rights through various artistic mediums.

Today, the Artistic Association has the honor to exhibit these women artists through its platform under the theme of: « Women’s Art for Human Rights » and invites you to discover their artworks, their words, their faces, and their souls.

Thérèse CIGNA

Thérèse CIGNA dedicates herself to pictorial art that she has practiced since her childhood. In a creative approach, she explores media and techniques that have a link with her former professional activity: printing, through her practice of artisanal printing.

Her artistic approach consists of going straight to the essential: the movement, the sensitivity and the emotion of a particular moment (l’instant T), which abounds in the philosophical thought of Lavoisier: « nothing is born nor does not perish, but existing things are combined… ».

Galina Zernova

Galina Zernova is a Russian painter who lives in the beautiful city of art – Florence in Italy where she is currently studying at the Faculty of Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts. She is originally from Moscow where she previously studied Russian folk art. Galina considers artistic practice as a wonderful gift enabling her to share the beauty and richness of life. That is why, in addition to painting, she also practices other artistic disciplines such as creation of designer toys, jewelry and pyrography. She constantly pushes the boundaries in painting by researching and testing new techniques.

Here, we offer you a selection of her pictorial works resulting from these researches where the artist succeeds in depicting the soul of her favorite cities.

A series of etchings on embossed cardboard in which she immerses us in the heart of Florence, allowing us to feel the atmosphere of this city through typical scenes, like cats resting under palm trees.

Color prints are dedicated to her hometown – Moscow. In this series, the artist works on the effect of the interplay of colors in the printing process.

The artwork with blue buildings plunges us into the heart of Tallinn! It is not a strict representation of a particular place in the city, but rather a representation of the ambience ruling there.

The three abstract works were created by the artist under impressions left by trips to Piedmont (green painting) and Tuscany (red painting).  Then a blue-orange painting representing the conclusion of this series.

Layla Reguiai

Layla Reguiai was born in Tunis, Tunisia in 1982.
Until the age of 19, she attended a French school in Tunisia and studied Fine Arts  at Sorbonne University in Paris. She currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Layla Reguiai defines herself as a self-taught multidisciplinary artist with diverse origins and identities.
For her, everything is in the imperfect tense, just like the grammatical tense. Her works are unfinished and incomplete. Only the viewer’s gaze completes them.
Her art is an escape, her sanctuary, her freedom, a lighthouse that guides her through the meanders of life. Her work, essentially autobiographical and full of emotions, is her soil, which she says she never stops exhuming, a means of conveying her perception of the world.
She acts by reflective associations of ideas, images, sensations to tell her story.
Associations that can easily find an echo in the stories of others.
From ordinary facts to strangeneses, she establishes a communion, a dialogue with the viewer.
Her life experience in a conservative Tunisian society on the one hand and in a French and German societies on the other hand have led her to question herself and the different mediums she uses, and to question her I-dentities.
Within her plastic works, the themes raised by the German-Tunisian artist are: injustice, taboos and the acceptance of all kinds of differences.
